Pearl Izumi Symphony Ultrasensor Shorts and Knickers
Review by Bicycling Magazine
A mini makeover improves the already deluxe Pearl Izumi Symphony UltraSensor Shorts and Knickers
For 2007, Pearl Izumi's excellent UltraSensor Short ($90) gets a mini makeover. Colored piping-your choice of green, yellow, blue or red-runs along the lower back panel of the leg grippers for just the right amount of flair, and the reflective logos are colored to match as well. (Naturally, you can buy a Pearl jersey to complement the shorts.)
Like the rest of Pearl's road shorts, the waist is cut higher in the back-coverage I appreciate when I'm in a stretched-out aero position. The updated women's 3D Elite chamois, which has proved to be as comfy as its predecessor, includes antimicrobial silver ions and is designed to move moisture away from the body, Pearl says. Another welcome new touch: a leg pocket for stashing keys and energy gel packets.
Now that it truly feels like fall here in Pennsylvania, I've put these shorts away and switched to Pearl's Symphony Ultrasensor Knickers ($100), which feature cool contrast stitching, and small color panels near the bottom of the legs. The lower back panel includes a MicroSensor mesh key pocket, which has the added benefit of providing additional ventilation, even when covered by a jersey.
