DriClime® fabrics are “plaited” bi-component denier gradient knits made of two distinct layers of 100% polyester yarns. he layer closest to the skin has a larger denier yarn and a brushed surface, which decreases the surface area next to, and contact with, the skin allowing for greater movement of perspiration to the outer layer. The outer layer has a smaller denier yarn with higher surface area, which powerfully pulls moisture away from the body and allows it to spread out and evaporate. Unlike Hydrofil® nylon or cotton, the moisture is never absorbed into the fiber where it would take longer to dry.

The DriClime® family has evolved into a range of products, from linings to underwear. All share a common goal; to move moisture, perspiration, away from the body keeping the fabric that is in contact to the body dry, preventing the chilling effects of wet conductive heat loss. Each DriClime™ fabric adds variations in performance based on the end use of the product.

Qwick - Rapid Evaporation Finish. This hydrophilic chemical is mixed into the yarn for permanent enhanced wicking. Will not wash out. Used in: DriClime underwear.


ODOR MANAGEMENT

What causes odor in base layer products?
The odor we smell is actually the bacteria effluent, (or bacteria poop, if you will), composed primarily of ammonia and other yucky stuff. This is our own skin bacteria that transfers to the textile and starts breeding. You can think of your base layer as a breeder reactor for bacteria, they like it warm and moist.
There are two ways to prevent this; blow up the reactor or stop the breeding process. Blowing up the reactor means killing all the bacteria in the surrounding area, including the bacteria on your skin. Stopping the breeding process occurs locally on the textile and does not migrate to the skin. Allowing the bacteria on our skin to maintain their natural balance.

Lately there has been concern regarding the proliferation of “anti-microbials’ and the effect it might have by killing all of the normal good bacteria on the human skin. BacteriaStat is a non-migratory anti-microbial, preventing the propagation of bacteria on the textile rather than killing the surrounding bacteria. Most other types of anti-microbials are migratory in nature with a wider kill/inhibition zone and can upset the natural balance of bacteria on the skin.

Marmot BacteriaStat - incorporates a silver ceramic polymer additive providing durable anti-microbial performance for the life of the product. The additive is actually embedded into the polymer matrix during the yarn manufacturing imparting inherent anti-microbial properties. The silver ions from the ceramic polymer shuts down the breeding process of the bacteria for permanent odor control. Will not wash out.


BASE LAYER

All base layer products share these common features:
• Polyester knit for fast dry
• Denier gradient knit - smaller denier spun yarns with higher capillary action on the outside to 3 dimensionally “wick” the moisture away from the body
• Inner surface is brushed for add comfort and warmth.
• Treated with Qwick™ for enhanced moisture management
• Marmot BacteriaStat – silver based permanent anti-microbial A.M.Y. yarn prevents odor causing bacteria.
